Welcome!

I'm Charles Turner, a doctoral student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Utah.

My primary research is focused on the politics of identity and inclusion, particularly among Muslim-Americans. Political science research into the Muslim-American community has done little to explore the ways in which Muslims understand their place in American politics. My research aims to give a voice to the Muslim community and demonstrate the unique ways they understand and experience politics in America. My work is primarily qualitative and rooted in the interpretive tradition, another area of interest I hold deeply.

Aside from academic research, I've been involved in the Muslim-American community in a variety of ways, from teaching at Islamic schools and running youth groups to developing interfaith and civic engagement projects. You can check out some of my work under the "Islam" menu above.
